I would like to introduce me oldest daughter, Breckin. Why I would like you to meet her, is because we have an opportunity for parents seeking Doula support, who already have a child (or children!)

Breckin is 15 years old. She has grown up in and around other children of all ages, her whole life, and has been providing child care – with her Babysitter training and CPR training – for 4+ years already. 

Families seeking my Doula care for your subsequent births come to me because you may have found that your previous experience(s) may not have felt as supported or empowered as you hope this birth could be – and maybe you also need to provide care for your older child(ren). This is where Breckin comes in!

Most often families prepare to call on family members or friends to be available for that “middle of the night” phone call that you have gone into labour, and need them to come be present for your sleeping older child(ren). If this is where we begin, you have gone into spontaneous labour and it’s the wee hours of the night, and you wish for me to come provide pain management – with Breckin available as well, she can come with me and be there to care for your child(ren) should they wake while we pain manage together. And when we choose to proceed to the hospital, if it is still the wee hours, Breckin can stay with your child(ren) in your home.

During our prenatal visits, we would together discuss a plan to decide if Breckin will stay until your baby is born and when we choose that I am free to go back to get her and then other arrangements begin, or if she is to wait until a reasonable time in the morning to call on chosen family/friends who will come to your home for your child(ren) and then who I would arrange to pick Breckin up comes to get her.

These are just some ideas that we can work with, but ideally this opportunity will maximize the care for this birth experience, for everyone involved – the birth parents, your children, and the family or friends being able to be well rested for an exciting day welcoming in the new baby!

And of course, if your children enjoy Breckin, as so many do, then there is always an opportunity to call on her for babysitting roles in your families future!
